PakNak review and giveaway

Written by valmg on September 26, 2008 – 10:30 pm

PaknakDys
We didn’t use backpacks back when I was in school. (Did you know I was old?) When I was in elementary, middle and high school we all used those heavy canvas book bags with handles. Yes, much like backpacks, everybody’s book bag was basically the same. One might have had blue straps and another green, but they were the same. As time passed the book bags change and become individualized. The first thing everyone did on or before the first day was put their name on them. You had to use heavy marker to make it show up and last. Then people started to color things on them. Before long, everyone had a different book bag that was their own work of art, or at the very least, their own graffiti wall.

These days our kids start using backpacks at an early age because various books and they’re all heavy. Not many people use book bags anymore because they’re not ergonomically efficient. If TJ used a bookbag instead of a backpack to carry his 20 pounds of books he’d be a hunchback for life. And so our kids use backpacks. There are a lot of types of backpacks out there but they all sort of look the same to me. TJ told me sometimes the kids can’t even tell their own backpacks apart. And, they’re all made of stuff you can’t draw easily on so you have to find other ways to personalize them. That’s where PakNaks come in.

From the site: PakNak ® is a company founded in Portland, Oregon by two energetic entrepreneurial moms, with a vision for empowering kids to turn plain backpacks into personalized, ever-changing, colorful works of art.“

PakNaks are soft, flexible, self adhesive rubber 3D backpack charms that attach using Velcro. They’re weather proof. What that means is that they can be used on more things than just backpacks. They could also be used on lunch boxes, lunch bags, binders, book covers, lockers and headbands. TJ and I were talking and think they’d work well on bike helmets too. There’s tons of places you could put one, the only thing they’re not recommended for use on is leather, suede and painted surfaces. PakNaks are patent pending and there are over thirty designs currently available including animals, flowers, nature, sports, and more. Each PakNak has a different name and comes with a trading card telling you about the design.

Thanks to the Family Review Network I got 4 PakNaks to review, JB and Sk8r for TJ and Mike and Grant for CJ. They look exactly like they do on the website. The charms were easy to apply and change. What an affordable and fun way to personalize your stuff! PakNaks are available for sale on the company website, which also offers coloring pages and games. They are also available for purchase in select locations within California, Oregon and Washington.
