Review of Maiden America

Written by valmg on September 15, 2008 – 11:05 pm

I’ve always hated my hair, partially because it’s so thin. Scrunchies, barrettes and ponytail holders all fall out of my hair, even now. My son TJ has hair just like me. I’m hoping that when my niece is born soon that she doesn’t have hair like mine. I’ve been doing some shopping in anticipation of her arrival. One of the things I know my sister in law is looking forward to is dressing her up and doing her hair. With that in mind, I started looking at hair accessories.

I know when I go out I frequently see barrettes on floors and on the ground. It seems that most of the ones you buy in discount stores don’t grab hair very well so they slip off and fall to the ground. What a waste of money. Thanks to the Family Review Network I learned where to find ones that won’t come off.

Maiden America makes non-slip barrettes. Non-slip barrettes are a good thing for little girls in general and a great thing for girls with thin hair. Their patent pending non-slip barrettes are available in different sizes from extra small to large and come in different configurations. All of their products are absolutely adorable and would look great on any little girl. They have barrettes in different materials and even have some with Swarovski crystals and some with pearls. Other products they offer include headbands, girls purses, handbags and clutches . Shipping is free for orders over $35. Maiden America was started by Tristan Benz, a mother of three. Her goal is to offer a quality product while providing employment in her area, particularly to other mothers and military wives. All of their products are all handmade here in the US with non toxic materials.

I ordered the following styles of barrettes, all pictured here: Roses And Chocolate (bottom right), A Little Satin Twinkle (top left), A Little Velvet Twinkle (middle), Satin Starlight (bottom left) and Mink Knit Daisies (top right). Tristan at Maiden America was even gracious enough to include a free ribbon to clip all of the barrettes on to when not being worn. All of the barrettes that I ordered looked just as good in person as they did on the website. The barrettes arrived safely, each wrapped with care inside tissue paper. I actually tried using these barrettes myself. I have long hair and bangs. I usually put a smell section of strands from the sides back so they don’t fall into my eyes. I was able to do this with two barrettes on each side. (I used two because I didn’t think to order a large size barrette for my trial.) They stayed in all day. I cannot say the same for the Goody Stay Put barrettes that I picked up in my grocery store for comparison, they were rather unattractive and fell out.

I am very impressed with the quality of the barrettes I received, they look great and stay in place. A wide range of styles is available so there’s something to suit every taste. They’re way cuter than the cheap plastic ones you can buy in discount stores and department stores that don’t stay in place. What I liked best about Maiden America barrettes is that they were attractive enough to be worn when dressed up and yet not so fancy they’d look out of place with play clothes. Let’s face it, sometimes little girls want to dress up and sometimes they want to climb a tree or play with frogs. With barrettes like these, there’s no reason a girl can’t wear look cute no matter what she’s doing.

  1. Val - wow. I am speechless (and let’s just say, verbosity is my genetic gift / curse combo!). Seriously - wow. If you’d like to do a giveaway on your site, I’d be happy to offer (2) $25 coupons - I could get you the codes for you to give your readers. I’ve read a lot of reviews and I really like that you went out and compared them to other products - our patent pending products ARE different and thank you for really testing that by comparison! I appreciate your time, too - the biggest gift a fellow mom can offer :-). THANKS!

    Kind Regards,
