Review of Parents Critter Conga

Written by valmg on December 19, 2008 – 11:58 pm

Thanks to Team Mom I got to review a really neat toy that I hadn’t seen before. The Parents Critter Conga is not your average toy drum or your average musical toy. That’s because it’s not only a drum, it a container for a collection of other musical toys, all of which share an animal theme. The set contains twelve pieces in total – a leopard conga drum with tambourine lid, a twister hand drum, a capuchin monkey rainstick, a crocodile cabasa and clacker, a gazelle whistle, a toucan whistle, an elephant whistle, two giraffe maracas, and two snake drumsticks.

Most of the musical toys you see in the stores contain just one instrument, maybe two. I’ve never seen such a wide variety of musical toys included in one set. And most of them are rather boring to look at. This visually stimulating set is just too cute! It’s never too early to encourage your children to take an interest in music. I know there are parents out there that don’t like noisy toys. I’m not one of them. I think it’s important to let children play with different types of toys, as well as express themselves.

This is another quality toy from Parents. Yes, that’s Parents magazine. They do more than just publish. They make great toys. Many people might not realize that Parents have won awards for toys they’re created, more than 52 of them. Thirteen of their toys have even received an AblePlay rating of developmentally appropriate for special needs children. This is of particular importance to me as a parent of a special needs child because I know that Parents cares about the quality of the toy and the quality of the experience that the child has with the toy.

The Critter Conga Set by Parents is available to purchase from Costco both online and in stores. The suggested age range is 18-24 months and up. It retails for approximately $30. If you would like to buy a single piece of the set you can do so at Target, where the individual pieces sell for about $10 under the Safari Song name.
