Review of Pepsi Diet Max

This is a review of the diet soda, Diet Pepsi Max Invigorating Cola. I saw it at my Mom’s in the refrigerator and asked her about it. She will only buy soda on sale and Pepsi products were on sale last week so that’s why she bought it.

Announced in 2007, Diet Pepsi Max is a diet soda with extra caffeine and ginseng in it. It’s actually labeled Invigorating Cola, which makes me immediately wonder if it will invigorate me as I got up at 4am this morning and have worked all day. Pepsi stated the target market for this soda is a 25-34 age group consisting of busy adults. The bottle colors are black, blue and silver and to me the bottle its coloring are nothing special. I looked at the label and saw aspartame and lots of other chemicals. According to the product website wakeuppeople.com, Diet Pepsi Max has 46mg of caffeine per 8 fl oz whereas the plain Diet Pepsi has 24mb caffeine per 8 fl oz. Diet Pepsi Max has zero calories and is sugar free.

I opened the bottle to pour some for us. The upper left picture is of the bottle of Diet Pepsi Max that we opened. The upper right picture is of one of the glasses of soda that I poured. The soda looked pretty much like other colas and was no more or less fizzy. The bottom right picture is my hand holding a glass of the Diet Pepsi Max. I smelled it and it smelled like plain Diet Pepsi. When held up so light would shine on the glass it was very dark and I couldn’t see much through the dark liquid.

I drank approximately 8-10 ounces of the soda in my taste test. I did not like the taste of Diet Pepsi Max at all. I found the dark drink to be a touch on the syrupy side and unpleasantly sweeter than regular Diet Pepsi. It reminded me of a medicine I once had to take. I also found that, despite it being a bottle opened that day and the drink having lots of bubbly fizz, the soda had a flat tasting quality about it.

I don’t recommend this soda. It did not invigorate me, as the bottle claimed it would, and I didn’t like the taste. I had an aftertaste for almost two hours after drinking it. Diet Pepsi Max comes in 12 ounce cans, 20 ounce bottles and 2 liter bottles. In my area the 2 liter bottle typically costs about $1.99, but my Mom got it when Pepsi brands were on sale 3 for $3.

  1. That’s interesting! Thanks for the review, I’m not a big Pepsi fan anyway, so think I’ll skip this one. I do like their commercial though, funny bobbing heads!

  2. It was not good.
