I love hidden object computer games. So naturally, when I was give the opportunity to review a new one I leaped at the chance. This is a review of The Lost Cases Of Sherlock Holmes, by Legacy Interactive.
One of the things that makes this game very cool is that it’s the first game authorized by the estate of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes. The game features Sherlock Holmes and Watson, as well approximately 100 additional historical characters. The game is set in Victorian London and scenes within the game are taken from 40 historically accurate locations including 221b Baker Street, Big Ben, the Royal Theater and Kew Gardens, as well as many more. The game The Lost Cases Of Sherlock Holmes consists of sixteen different cases to solve of crimes including theft and murder. What really makes this game fun is that it contains a variety of different activities within the game including hidden object games, picture memory games and find the difference pictures.
Gameplay begins in a library of books, with each book representing one of sixteen separate cases. When you begin solving a case you’re given a brief narrated story containing some basic information about the case and then you must find evidence and clues by playing the games. You have 25 minutes to solve each case. You have to solve the cases in order, and the cases get increasingly more difficult.
Each of the levels I played had a hidden object game, a find the difference game and a memory game, as well as some mini games. The find the difference game represents a crime scene, before and after, and the differences represent evidence. The hidden object game represents the search for clues. Within some of the games there are occasional minigames that need to be played to make something happen with an item you’ve found. In one level a minigame unlocked a box and in another level a minigame pieced together ripped pieces of paper. The picture memory game represents the reviewing of clues and ruling out of suspects. Once you’ve completed the different puzzles within each case, the guilty party is discovered and the case closed. You can exit the game at any time and the game will be saved so you can resume it the next time you want to play.
I love hidden object games but am not challenged when the items aren’t hidden well or are too easy to find. I had to really look for most of the items in this game, which was a welcome challenge. Some of the items are small and hard to spot, but a magnifying glass is available to make it easier to look for things. Two things that aren’t on the list that you always want to keep an eye out for are Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe, as finding them give you additional hints and bonuses.
The Lost Cases Of Sherlock Holmes is rated E10 for everyone and is available for purchase and download for $19.95 now from Legacy Interactive now. The colors are vivid and the graphics are decent. Gameplay is challenging enough to hold your interest while remaining fair. I recommend this game for any fan of hidden object games, as well as people just wanting to try something different.
