Earlier this month a publisher emailed me a recipe for Homemade Lemonade, inviting me to include it on my food blog. I was thrilled when she offered me the opportunity to review the cookbook that the recipe came from. This is a review of The Toddler Cookbook, written by Annabel Karmel and published by DK Publishing.

The top left picture is of the cover of the book. There are 48 pages hiding behind the cute cover that shows two children mixing something. Every recipe offered in the book is listed in the table of contents. The cookbook begins with an introduction containing tips and basic explanations of how to perform some simple cooking tasks, followed by two pages of all cooking tools used in the book.

I liked the pictures of all of the cooking tools. What a great way to teach a child what something is called, other than a thingamajiggy. The tools used in the recipes are everyday tools that most of you have including egg whisk, hand beater, melon scoop, strainers, blender, plastic wrap, baking parchment, aluminum foil, ice pop mold, electric hand mixer, mixing bowls, ice cube molds, lemon squeezer, cookie cutters, rolling pin, cookie sheet, masher, garlic press, colander, box grater, wooden spoon, mallet, palette knife, cutting board, measuring spoons, measuring cups, piping bag and tips, cooling rack, muffin pan, weighing scale, frying pan and spatula.

The recipes. There are twenty of them, most of which also contain suggestions to try for modifying the recipe. Each recipe contains a list of ingredients and states the amount of servings it makes. The instructions are simply worded and easy to understand. A clear, picture showing a child carrying out each step accompanies the instructions. The middle left picture is of the page containing the lemonade recipe.

ReviewsTodCookBack My favorite recipe in The Toddler Cookbook is the one for chicken dippers. They’re very tasty and were super easy to make. All of the recipes in The Toddler Cookbook are healthy and nutritious and made from fresh ingredients. And they’re written to not take hours of prep and cooking time as well, leaving you and your family free to do other things. Annabel Karmel is a best selling author who was awarded a place on the Queen’s Honours List for her work in the childrens nutrition field.

I was pleasantly surprised with this cookbook. It’s fun! The book is attractive and the colors are spectacular. The photos of the children are colorful and help demonstrate the simplicity of the recipes. The bottom left picture is of the back cover of the book. The text is easy to read and the font size and style is a great choice. I recommend this cookbook highly if you’ve got children and would like to spend some quality time together while helping them learn to cook. I also think the book would also suit a portion of the special needs population, to help teach life skills. The Toddler Cookbook is available for purchase in a number of online stores for about $10.99.

I have a copy of The Toddler Cookbook that I will give to the winner of a little contest. To learn how to enter visit Fun, Crafts and Recipes.
