I love to read and have been fortunate enough to receive a couple of new books lately to review. Thanks to the Family Review Network I recently received some books from the Complete Idiot’s Guides series, including Weird Word Origins and Fun FAQs. I enjoyed these books and they’re getting lots of good use in my house.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Weird Word Origins by Paul McFedries has a cover price of $14.95, contains 243 pages and was published in August 2008. It’s ISBN is # 9781592577811. The book is in easy to read alphabetic order and contains explanations of more than 500 words, phrases and expressions. The explanations are at least a good size paragraph long in easy to understand language. I love to read, I love words and I love to learn new things so this book is perfect light reading for me. My son TJ and I have been taking turns reading one story a day to each other and having fun learning something new together. I would think this book would be suitable for people of middle school age and up in my opinion. It would even make a good gift for someone interested in words or trivia.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Fun FAQs by Sandy Wood and Kara Kovalchik has a cover price of $12.95, contains 246 pages and was also just recently published. It’s ISBN is # 9781592577545. This book is full of fun facts and pieces of trivia. It’s broken down into chapters for the sake of organization, it does not need to be read as a chapter book. The chapters include Entertainment, Life, Sports, People and Names, Science, Food and Drink, Words, Travel and Places, Fun and Games and Potpourri. The facts are presented in a question and answer format in easy to understand wording. I would think this book also would be suitable for people of middle school age and up. This book is also great light reading material but it’d definitely be more fun when shared with others. I could see this book being used as not only a fun source of information but also as a fun little game. It would make a good gift for anyone interested in trivia.
