Unique Skins review and giveaway

A few years ago my best friend gave me an iPod Mini. It’s on it’s second battery (courtesy of $5 spent on a new battery and toolkit on ebay and an emergency iPod surgery performed by my Dad) and it’s scratched and worn from floating around in my purse and my work tote bag. And dropping it from time to time. Thanks to the Family Review Network I got a chance to review Unique Skins.
Unique Skins offers custom vinyl skins for iPods, mp3 players, cell phones, laptops and more. The precut skins are made of Cast vinyl, with a product made by 3M that’s called Controltac. The site is easy to navigate. First you choose the model of the product you want to skin, which assures the correct fit. Then you get to customize your skin. You can choose from solid colors and prints on their site, or you can upload your own images. Shoppers can even use more than one image when designing their skin. You can even add text. The actual design process is easy. Just place the images you’ve chosen onto the picture of the screen. You can move them, stretch them and turn them, checking your progress on the preview model which is the exact size of the product you’re creating the skin for. If you get stuck along while in the process there’s lots of tips to help you out and the site offers a tutorial on how to use it as well as an faq section. There really isn’t much you can’t do with these skins. Pricing is quite reasonable, starting at $4.99.
I received my order just a couple of days after placing it. The color was just as glossy as it had looked on the screen. The quality of the print is very good. (Better than the quality of the picture of the front of my iPod, above left picture.) Now I admit I was a little hesitant on how good the skins would look. So, rather than upload my own image I used stock leopard print. Had I known they’d look as good as they do I would have uploaded my own image. Applying the skin to my iPod was easy. All I had to do was peel the skin off of the sheet it came on and apply. It’s very easy. I had a little crease in mine so I just pulled that corner back and reapplied and the crease was gone. The only thing I did notice is that there’s a small uncovered gap on each side of my iPod (above right picture). It wasn’t a big deal and being as it was the same on both sides it looked like it might have been designed that way purposely. Since the skins are precut I can only assume that I did something wrong in the resizing of my picture.
I think Unique Skins would make a nice little gift or a stocking stuffer. It’d also be a great way to refresh the look of your gadget without the expense of buying a new one. It’s a gadget makeover.

I know my oldest son would be enjoy having one of these “Unique Skins” for his Apple iPhone 3G.

I would definitely gete a skin for my 3rd generation ipod nano. I love the pattern skins…especially the blue/purple one with the teal colored swirls! I would probably think about getting a skin for my phone too, but I’m getting a new one soon so I would wait until then! Thanks for the great giveaway.

I’d definitely choose an abstract pattern for my son’s classic iPod…(christmas is coming around the corner)…I thought that the web would look cool on the back and on the front, the green abstract spiral looks cool..
Please count me in as this would be an awesome gift for my son…maybe even my husband since I’ll still have some credit left over (it only came out to 7.00 for my sons design)…

I’ve seen these and I think they’re SO cool!! I’d get one for my Apple Macbook and since I’m a graphic designer, I’d design my own funky design that’s killer!!
