Review of EcoUsable Ech2o Filtered Water Bottle

Written by valmg on March 17, 2009 – 10:44 pm

We drink a lot of water in my house, at least two cases of 24 bottles per week. My older son and my husband choose to drink water over other beverages, as do I. We drink bottled water because we like the taste better than tap water and because we think it’s safer to drink than tap water. The only issue I’ve ever encountered is finding someone to take out the recycling. My family easily disposes of almost two kitchen cans worth of plastic water bottles each week. Thanks to EcoUsable, I can now drastically cut the number of bottles we’re recycling every week.

EcoUsable has partnered with the Algalita Marine Research Foundation to create the first stainless steel filtered water bottle, named Ech2o. Each Ech2o bottle is made of recyclable, BPA-free, food grade stainless steel. The bottles have recyclable filters. The filters are made by Seychelle and are designed to remove 99.99% of the pollutants that cause bad tastes and smells as well as filter out sediment, chlorine, and other chemicals. Each filter is good for use on up to 100 gallons, or about one year.

EcoUsable feels that with this product people will be able to take a step toward eliminating single use plastics, particularly water bottles. The problem with plastic water bottles, and single use plastics in general, is that they are clogging up landfills and waterways. According to the Container Recycling Institute, 60 million plastic containers are discarded every day! Algalita Marine Research Foundation has shown that fish come into contact with those plastics, often eating it and dying. Fish that don’t die from eating the plastics carry poisons from plastics that disintegrate in the ocean. Those fish are then ingested by people. Surely you can see how important it is that we be more aware and more careful to protect what’s left of our environment. One huge step in that direction would be cutting single use plastics out of our lifestyle.

I received a 25 ounce Ech2o bottle. I expected it to be heavy but it was really light. It didn’t weight much more than one of the plastic water bottles that I usually drink from. The bottle features a non slip base and a sport top that flips up. I filled my Ech2o bottle at 8 am. At first I couldn’t believe how cold the container became after placing water in it. It was so unbelievable that I made my coworkers feel it too. The water inside was actually cold and it tasted better than both my usual bottled water and our water cooler at work. The water still tasted fresh and cool at 3 pm! during the course of the day the bottle hadn’t sweat once, not on the inside or outside. When I got home I checked it one last time at 7 pm and the contents were still cool. I prefer the taste drinking from the Ech2o bottle much more than drinking from a plastic bottle or a glass of tap water.

I sometimes eat cereal for breakfast. When I do on a work day I usually bring the milk to work in an empty plastic water bottle, which inevitably loses it’s coldness. I think I’m going to try bringing my milk in the Ech2o bottle, I think it’ll be a huge improvement. I’ve learned from the folks at EcoUsable that liquids other than water should NOT be used in the Ech2o bottle.

I’m totally thrilled with these new stainless steel filtered water bottles! The Ech2o 25 ounce filtered stainless water bottle comes in six colors - stainless swirl, metallic blue, metallic green, metallic red, purple and pink. Ech2o filtered water bottles may be ordered from the EcoUsable  store. They retail for $44.99 and they are worth every penny when you consider that they’re reusable, they help the environment, they help protect animals in the environment and they’re good for our health. And the water tastes great too!
