Synopsis – “Edge of Darkness” is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, 24-year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter’s secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking-glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder–and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone), who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven’s solitary search for answers about his daughter’s death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption. http://edge-of-darkness.warnerbros.com/
From director, Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) Edge of Darkness stars Academy Award™ winner Mel Gibson (“Braveheart”), Ray Winstone (“The Departed”), Danny Huston (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), Bojana Novakovic (“Drag Me to Hell”) and Shawn Roberts (“I Love You, Beth Cooper”)
I’ve enjoyed most of Mel gibson’s movies and this one was no exception. It seemed like Mel really got into this part, making it believable. From beginning to end this movie winds and weaves, building to an end I didn’t really expect. When homicide detective Craven’s daughter is shot on his front porch it is assumed that the shot was intended for him. Craven never really stops to grieve, he moves into a curious combination of dad and detective, wanting to learn more about his daughter’s life and then, consequently, murder. He learns that his daughter was not the person he thought she was. She was not an intern but rather an employee at a company with lots of political secrets that inevitable led to her death. He encounters Darius, someone hired to “clean up after the murder”. He also meets his daughter’s boyfriend, who knows about the secrets and is rightly terrified for his life. As Craven discovers who his daughter was and what she was fighting for he fights to bring her killer’s identity to light, to help finish what his daughter started out to do, and for justice.
