Mad Hungry With Lucinda Scala Quinn, Hallmark Channel’s New Original Cooking Series, Puts The Family Meal Back On The Menu Beginning September 13th
“MAD HUNGRY WITH LUCINDA SCALA QUINN,” HALLMARK CHANNEL’S NEW ORIGINAL COOKING SERIES, PUTS THE FAMILY MEAL BACK ON THE MENU BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 13TH
Based on the Best-Selling Book of the Same Name, Longtime Martha Stewart Living Food Editor Serves Up Delicious and Innovative Recipes That Entice Friends and Family To Gather Around the Dinner Table
New York, August 31, 2010 – It didn’t take long for Lucinda Scala Quinn to discover that getting her three ravenous sons and hungry husband to the dinner table was nothing less than a challenge. But the longtime Martha Stewart Living food editor and best-selling author saw that challenge as the opportunity of a lifetime and made it her goal to make mealtime an unforgettable and delectable experience for her family and friends.
Lucinda’s personal journey feeding family and friends is the inspiration for Hallmark Channel’s new series, “Mad Hungry With Lucinda Scala Quinn.” Premiering September 13th (12PM ET/11C) and based on her best-selling book of the same name, Lucinda redefines home cooking with “real life, real time” action plans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that will inspire a return to the kind of “food-centric” celebrations that build memories and make gathering with loved ones a tradition that will be passed down for generations.
Throughout the half-hour series, the host is joined by her three grown sons, (who pride themselves on their culinary prowess thanks to mom), plus close friends and family, who have enjoyed Lucinda’s delicious recipes. Lucinda’s innovative take on meal preparation will provide both serious food lovers as well as home cooking novices with take-away information which they can apply to their daily lives: ingenious tips on shopping with kids, inventive ways to stretch leftovers, and advice on how to stock your refrigerator and freezer with items that make dinner-time a breeze.
Whether she’s relaying kitchen must-haves (“Never be caught without bacon” and “Keep a constant supply of onions and garlic”) or explaining how to get a healthy meal on the table in minutes, Lucinda will focus on simple, straightforward and no-fuss recipes that deliver big results with minimum effort.
Sitting at a farm table on her cozy set (inspired by her kitchen at home), Lucinda says she is determined to bring excitement back to the homemade meal. “Homemade doesn’t have to be hard. By having the right items on hand, you can surprise your family and friends with delicious meals that provide the basis for building real family memories at the dinner table,” says Lucinda. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to do the show I have always wanted to do and pass along tips and recipes that can be emulated day in and day out by any home cook.”
In the first weeks, segments viewers can expect to see include: “The Freezer is Your Friend” – a segment focusing on the art of cooking meals ahead of time plus freezing techniques that can help get viewers through a week of gatherings; and “The Sunday Cook,” a mix of weekend-ready recipes to enjoy at leisure (or to get a jump-start on meals for the following week.) Recipes featured include: crunchy sesame chicken wings; authentic New Orleans-style red beans and rice; boy-perfect lasagna; lentil vegetable soup; and more!
Growing up with three brothers and living in New York City with her three sons and husband, Lucinda has spent much of her time feeding the men and boys in her life and teaching them how to feed themselves. A believer that food, security and love are entwined in the meals we cook and serve our family and friends, Lucinda got her start cooking professionally at an early age and has worked as a chef, cooking teacher, caterer, and food writer.
Lucinda is currently Senior Vice President and Executive Editorial Director of Food and Entertaining for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia; co-host of the popular television series “Everyday Food®”; and host of “EatDrink” on Martha Stewart Living Radio on SIRIUS channel 112 and XM Radio 157. She has also authored three popular cookbooks, including her most recent title, Mad Hungry: Feeding Men and Boys, Artisan Books.
